Leaving Marrakesh, direction Ouarzazate, going up Tizi n’Tichka pass
(altitude:2260m) in the Great Atlas, the highest pass in Morocco.
You will drive across the Great Atlas mountains to reach Télouet and visit Pasha Glaoui’s kashba, built on the site of an 18 th century kasbah, and which used to control the passage of commercial caravans.
After lunch in a restaurant, the trip continues towards Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO world heritage, and where famous films such as « Lawrence of Arabia », « Gladiator », « the Mummy » and « Game of Thrones » were shot.
Your day trip will end at Ouarzazate, city also called the Hollywood of Morocco.
You can enjoy the panoramic view over Todra river on the way towards Tinjdad, where you will stop for lunch in a local restaurant.
Crossing the villages of Touroug and Elgarf, you will continue towards Erfoud, where you will visit the marble factory and take some time for shopping.
This day trip will end in the region of Merzouga, where the Sahara desert, here, is called Erg Chebbi.
After a short camel ride, you will admire the sunset over the dunes, followed by a traditional tajine, sharing the nomad lifestyle around a campfire, admiring the night sky and finally spend the night in a Berber tent.
Your guide will wake you up early to enjoy the fantastic sunrise over the dunes of the Sahara, then back to the village for a wash and breakfast.
You will explore the desert by four-wheel drive, enjoy a tour in the dunes, visit some oases, and Khamlia, a village famous for its Gnaoua music. Your guide will explain the historical importance of this people from Black Africa.
Later you will visit some Berber nomads in the desert and spend a very special moment with them. You can also see Dayte Sarji lake, a lake that appears in the Spring and attracts flamingos and wildlife.
Back to your hotel facing the dunes of the Sahara after a long day trip !
The first stop of your day trip will be at Rissani (former economic capital of Morocco), where you will discover the charm of the local souks and meet nomads who do their shopping before going back to their life in the desert.
Continuing your route going past Erfoud and Errachidia, then Ziz Valley, you will enjoy the panoramic view over Aoufous oasis in the Tafilalet region.
Going through Tizi n’Talghamt door you will reach Midelt for lunch.
Then direction Fez, driving through Cedar forest, the largest forest in Morocco in the Middle Atlas, where you will spot some monkeys living in the wild.
On your way to Fez, you will see Ifrane, a very specific city, also called Moroccan Switzerland !
